Now here's how it works.

What it actually is

Open it and it looks like a group chat. Names on the left, messages on the right. That's the trap on day one: you type a question, read an answer, type again, and it feels like every other chatbot you've used.

It isn't.

Each name in that sidebar is a separate agent with its own job, its own memory, and its own computer, a real machine running in the cloud, not a session that dies when you close the tab. Close your laptop mid-task and the work keeps running. Come back in three hours and it's done.

One account, one shared machine, room for up to 50 of these running at once. Whatever one finishes, the next one can immediately build on. Same files, same browser state, same logins.

Building the team

The first mistake is hiring too many, too fast, and turning yourself into a manager of ten mediocre generalists instead of one sharp specialist.

A job earns its own hire when it passes five checks:

A good one is short and has teeth:

Agents talking to agents

This is the part that actually changes how work gets done.

Give two agents clear descriptions and they hand tasks to each other without you routing anything. One finds something that belongs to a different specialist's lane, and it just sends it over. The receiving agent picks it up, works it, replies. You read the exchange after the fact instead of relaying every message yourself.

An agent with a blank or vague description can't participate in this. It has no defined lane, so nothing knows what belongs to it and it can't tell what belongs to someone else. The description isn't documentation. It's the actual routing table.

Put three or four of them in one shared conversation and they self-organize around who answers what, especially if you're explicit about who owns each stage:

Teach once, don't repeat yourself

The lazy way is scheduling a job before it actually works. Don't.

The order that actually holds up:

  1. Run the task live, once, somewhere low-stakes
  2. Fix it until the output is genuinely good
  3. Save that exact process as a named skill
  4. Run it again on a different input to confirm it generalizes
  5. Only then, schedule it

A skill is a saved method, the steps, not just the outcome. It survives long after the conversation that produced it is gone. The schedule is just what calls it on a timer:

this week's list. Post results here. Never contact anyone

directly. If the source data is down, say so, don't

fall back on stale numbers.

That last line matters more than it looks. An agent that quietly reuses yesterday's data because today's source failed is worse than one that just tells you it's stuck.

When it needs the real internet

Some jobs can't happen in a chat window. Paying an invoice, updating a dashboard, replying inside an actual inbox. These need to happen in the real tool, not as a draft you copy-paste yourself.

Grok Bot's agents can drive an actual browser to do this. They click, they type, they navigate, right up until something requires a human specifically: a password, a two-factor code, a CAPTCHA, anything involving money moving or identity. At that point it stops and asks. Everything else, it just handles.

Log in once for one agent and the session carries. Every other agent on the same account can use it. One sign-in covers the team.

What it's actually worth

The instinct is to judge a subscription by the sticker price. Wrong instinct.

Judge it by output per dollar. A week where five agents move 200 prospects, send 40 outreach messages, and answer 60 inbound replies is worth measuring against what that week costs, not against whether the number on the invoice feels big in isolation.

Most people never run that math. They cancel because the bill looked large, without ever counting what got done.

The thing nobody tells you until it breaks

The machine each agent runs on gets rebuilt periodically. That's normal, but it also means anything you installed casually, outside the one folder built to survive that reset, disappears without warning.

One directory persists through every rebuild. Everything else is temporary by design, whether the interface makes that obvious or not.

If you're setting up anything that needs to survive past a single session, custom tools, saved configs, anything you don't want to rebuild from memory next month, that's the one place it has to live. Everything outside it is a cache, not storage.

Miss this and you'll spend a confusing afternoon wondering why a setup that worked perfectly last week is suddenly gone.

The actual shift

The obvious use of this is "make one task faster." The real use is different. You stop being the bottleneck that every task has to pass through one at a time.

Five jobs running in parallel, each one narrow enough to actually trust, each one accountable to a description you can check against its output. That's not automation for its own sake. That's just what running five jobs looks like when one person doesn't have to physically do all five.

Most people are still doing this the old way because nobody told them the new way existed yet.
