Know the length without giving up the draft

Counting happens entirely in your browser. Your text stays on this device unless you explicitly choose to copy it or continue working in YouMind.

Useful at a glance

More than a word total

Use language-aware counts and practical timing estimates to shape essays, posts, scripts, and speeches.

Language-aware counting

Modern browser segmentation recognizes words and sentences across languages, including text that does not use spaces between every word.

Reading and speaking estimates

See a practical estimate for silent reading and spoken delivery, so a draft fits the time available.

Local from the first keystroke

No text-analysis request is made while you type, paste, edit, or review the counts.

How it works

From draft to useful totals in three steps

There is nothing to configure and no analysis to wait for.

  1. Add your text

Type directly in the editor or paste a draft from another app.

  2. Review the live totals

Compare words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, and timing as the draft changes.

  3. Keep improving the draft

Copy the text, clear the workspace, or intentionally carry it into YouMind for the next writing step.

Word counter FAQ

How does the word counter count words?
It uses the browser's language-aware text segmentation where available, with a Unicode-aware fallback. This handles punctuation and many writing systems more naturally than splitting only at spaces.
What is the difference between the two character counts?
Characters includes spaces and line breaks. Characters without spaces removes whitespace while keeping letters, numbers, punctuation, symbols, and emoji.
Does it work with languages that do not separate every word with spaces?
Yes. Supported browsers use locale-aware segmentation for languages such as Chinese and Japanese, while the same page also supports Arabic and other right-to-left text.
Is my text uploaded while I count it?
No. Typing, pasting, editing, and counting happen locally in your browser. Your text is only carried forward if you deliberately choose Continue in YouMind.
How are reading and speaking times estimated?
They are practical estimates based on typical silent-reading and speaking rates. Your real pace can vary with subject, audience, pauses, and delivery style.
Can I keep editing the text after counting it?
Yes. The editor remains fully editable, and you can copy the draft or continue in YouMind when you want help with the next revision.
