Picture a slab listed as available. Nobody can find it. The salesperson has promised it to a customer, the shop has earmarked it for tomorrow’s cut, and damage along one edge has never reached the inventory record.
That is the test for countertop inventory software. Keeping the material’s identity, condition, location, commitments and value connected is where a system earns its place in the shop.
SlabOS makes a credible case through warehouse visibility, crew access and material tracking. Stonify, Moraware, ActionFlow and Stone Profit Systems compete effectively in different parts of that lifecycle.
Declaring a universal winner would require running the same transactions in each. The available evidence supports a more useful conclusion: which systems deserve attention for which operational problems.
Follow one illustrative job through the yard. Order eight matching slabs, receive six, record damage on one, hold two for a quote, convert the quote into a job, cut the material and return a reusable remnant. Then investigate a stocktake discrepancy.
This scenario was not executed. It provides a consistent way to examine what each vendor documents.
SlabOS: connect the material record to the yard
SlabOS’s most immediately legible feature is its visual warehouse map. Building outlines, bays and racks connect to searchable slab records and occupancy counts.
A named location field can tell someone “Rack B.” A map can explain where Rack B sits and what is assigned there. That distinction matters when the person looking for the stone did not unload it.
The map still depends on recorded movement. A forklift changes physical reality; the software needs the corresponding update. Attractive graphics cannot close that gap themselves.
Supplied SlabOS interfaces and source show individual records carrying material, color, thickness, finish, stock type, serial, lot or bundle, supplier, received date, location, job assignment and cost per square foot.
Photographs, condition information and a journey/history view accompany Consume, Create Remnant and Print Label actions. This gives receiving, sales and production a common material reference.
The receiving workflow has substance behind the screen. Source inspection confirmed partial purchase-order receiving that creates individually identified stock and receipt records.
Quotes can hold specific physical slabs. Checks address conflicting holds and allocations. Conversion into a job transfers those commitments. Inventory selection also connects to drawings and nesting.
These are implemented functions, although simultaneous-user reliability was not tested. A serious demo should include two people requesting the same slab.
The crew needs more than an office screen
Keeping records current requires tools the yard crew can actually reach.
SlabOS’s inspected native iOS workflow includes slab photography, proportion-based cropping, receiving and editing, warehouse lookup, and phone-camera QR/barcode scanning.
Web crew screens add damage categories, notes, photographs and optional staff notifications. Full damage-reporting parity in the native app was not established. Cropping a photograph also does not measure the usable stone within it.
Count and move sessions distinguish duplicate, unknown, changed and unseen items. Pending reads can survive interrupted connectivity, but synchronization and review precede confirmation. An unseen slab is not silently written off.
Native RFID reader integration is implemented, alongside the publicly described QR, barcode and RFID labeling options. Buyers should demonstrate the actual reader, tags and crew-app configuration they will use.
Track the slab, then track the pieces
Labeling deserves attention because identity can break when a slab becomes several parts.
SlabOS inventory labels have editable content and dimensions, printer profiles and previews, with system/PDF, Crew and Zebra output paths. Enabled identifiers can resolve to the same inventory record; scan defaults and printer/rack settings are configurable.
Separate piece labels extend that idea into fabrication.
The reviewed interface supports captured drawings or manually added pieces, room and material information, thickness, edge and fixture notes, and face/edge designs with custom sizes, orientation, resolution, drawings, QR codes and QC fields.
Saved revisions and prepared batches support reprinting original contents. That could help keep a cut part associated with its job through installation.
The supplied interface marks Piece Labels as Demo beta. Availability and printer performance need confirmation.
A remnant needs an identity and a future
Remnants are the next credibility test.
SlabOS can give an offcut a separate identity linked to its parent and retain condition information. Its reviewed manual entry uses dimensions, photographs and notes.
Automatic irregular-outline capture, immutable damage history, damaged-area exclusion and complete receipt-to-remnant financial reconciliation remain unverified.
The advertised Slabsmith bridge is early access. Supplied settings show a read/write configuration, so the delivered synchronization scope needs to be explicit.
A remnant record is a useful starting point. The buying question is whether the shop can identify the usable material, locate it, commit it to another job and account for its value without rebuilding the story manually.
Stonify: inventory with financial consequences
Stonify deserves close comparison here.
Its inventory documentation covers individual barcodes, supplier lots, bundles, dimensions, bins, transfers, damage photographs and landed costs.
Its drawing workflow documents holding selected inventory for a quote and allocating it to a deal. Its stocktake material addresses inventory changing during a count—an important detail when production continues around the person holding the scanner. Workflow and audit release notes.
For the damaged slab in our example, Stonify documents a damage credit affecting landed cost. That connects the purchasing exception to money.
September release notes add remnant-dimension synchronization from Horus or Slabsmith, an external integration.
Its QuickBooks connection uses journal-entry ledger synchronization and requires account mapping.
A comparable visual warehouse map and complete condition chronology were not established in the reviewed materials.
Moraware: compare the correct products
Moraware needs to be compared by product, not by brand shorthand.
Current Inventory requires Systemize. CounterGo supplies drawing and quoting.
Its documented material sequence covers ordering, receiving, allocation, consumption and remnants.
An especially useful detail appears when unused material is released: availability returns, but the original job retains its unmet material requirement. One reassignment does not erase another job’s shortage. Release behavior.
Moraware’s manual irregular-remnant entry likewise uses dimensions, notes and photography.
Configured scanner integration can create parent-linked remnants, with provider setup and a paid API user. Compatibility of external barcode tools with the current Inventory product should be confirmed.
Expiring quote-only holds, native visual mapping and comprehensive damage history remained unverified.
Existing Systemize users have a sensible extension to evaluate before replacing their workflow.
ActionFlow: material through production
ActionFlow’s documented strength is the relationship between material and production reporting.
It covers purchasing, project allocations and remnant return, with mobile barcode inventory checks.
Its reporting reference includes receiving worksheets, pending transfers, used/cut/waste quantities, adjustments, valuation and job costs. Those categories give a manager places to investigate our missing slab. Reports alone do not prove every underlying transaction reconciles. Reporting reference.

Slabsmith and QuickBooks are integrations, and implementation should account for its Windows application.
Quote-hold enforcement, damaged-stock restrictions and partial-receipt exceptions remain live-demo questions.
Stone Profit Systems: purchasing and accounting depth
Stone Profit Systems has the strongest public purchasing-and-accounting documentation in this comparison.
Its receiving sequence connects supplier paperwork, lots, bundles, actual dimensions, bins, serialized labels and freight costs.
Multiple packing lists against one purchase order accommodate staggered arrivals, giving the two undelivered slabs in our example a documented place in the process.
SPS distinguishes quantities from specific slab allocations: allocating actual items removes them from availability; invoicing removes them from current inventory.
Buyers must align those events with physical cutting and installation.
Its Fabricator offering documents remnants, transfers, permissions, valuation and native accounting, supported by mobile physical counts.
The separate Distributor offering warrants attention for wholesale and consignment operations.
Full damage chronology and automatic irregular-outline capture still need demonstration.
Which system belongs on your shortlist?
SlabOS belongs high on the demo list for a fabrication shop whose office commitments and yard reality keep drifting apart.
Its map, crew workflows and labeling provide a concrete reason to look. Confirm beta features and the configured hardware, then follow an actual receipt through cutting, remnant return and reconciliation.
Stonify merits direct comparison where fabrication and financial workflows must stay closely connected.
Moraware is a logical candidate for shops already running Systemize.
ActionFlow deserves attention where production reporting drives decisions.
SPS should receive early consideration when complex purchasing, distribution or accounting dominates the operation.
Have each finalist handle the same damaged delivery, conflicting reservation, canceled hold and stock movement during a count.
Check lot, finish and thickness continuity; correction permissions; movement history; purchase costs; consumption; waste; and remnant value.
The strongest inventory system is the one your crew can keep accurate—and your office can trust when making the next promise.
