One of the reasons people say playing against Joseph is boring is the opinion that "it's too much of a game of luck." I'd like to verbalize my personal thoughts on this.
If you want to know how to counter Joseph, please read on.
Common "Luck Game" Claims
Many people claim it's a game of luck when someone downed in the photo world is found and immediately chaired. However, in most matches, pure luck can be avoided.
As a premise, a "luck game" occurs when both sides act without thinking.
If either side moves while considering the opponent's path, it becomes a psychological battle (reading), not pure luck.
From a survivor's perspective, if you think about where Joseph will be after the photo world collapses, a reading battle over the down position occurs.
The importance of spawn points is key here.
Taking the Arms Factory as an example, if Joseph takes a photo at the start with the spawn selection shown below, where will his final location be?

The answer is very likely one of: 1) Near the cipher machine in front of the crows, 2) Near the chair in front of the factory gate, or 3) The central three-pallet area.
In this spawn, in almost every match, the Postman's position is hit first, then the Novelist, and finally, he looks for the Puppeteer or Psychologist.
Even if searching takes time or he chooses a surprise attack, it usually falls into options 1-3.
Additionally, survivors share real-time info on who was hit. By inferring the hunter's position and path from pre-match and early-game info, you can identify high-risk areas.
Doesn't it feel less like pure luck now?
Joseph players also consider survivor paths—which cipher they head to, crow locations, whether they seek healing or stay put.
Of course, some Joseph players don't think deeply. But if survivors also don't think about where they go down or heal, it becomes the "luck game" mentioned earlier.
This example covered the opening photo, but the structure is the same for late photos.
Hunter/survivor placements are patterned even outside spawn selection, so you can predict based on opening chats. I hope this conveys what's behind the "luck" facade.
