Many people get stuck on Google's phone verification during registration, thinking it's an unavoidable hurdle. I just completed a full run using the Gmail client on iPhone—no phone number entered at all, and the registration was successful.
The key lies in the "Skip" button that many people overlook. This article explains every step and key points clearly so you can replicate it.
Let's Clarify One Thing: That "Skip" Button
Halfway through registration, Google will ask you to "Add a phone number." Many people instinctively fill it in or think they can't proceed without it. In fact, there is a blue "Skip" button in the bottom left corner of the page—this phone number is actually optional. Click skip, and the registration continues all the way to the end to get your account.
I went through the whole process by clicking skip this time and successfully created a Gmail account.
Why Did I Succeed in Skipping This Time? (This is the Key)
To be honest: whether "Skip" actually works isn't 100% guaranteed. It depends on whether your registration environment is "clean." If the environment is right, Google doesn't force a phone number; if the environment is "dirty," it will block you at some step for an SMS.
So before following the steps, get your environment in order:
① The IP must be clean. The exit IPs of most public VPNs or shared nodes are flagged as high-risk by Google. Such IPs easily trigger SMS requirements. Prioritize using native IPs, residential IPs, or unpopular clean dedicated nodes. A dedicated clean exit from a self-built VPS is often more stable than shared VPNs. (I am currently using a BandwagonHost VPS: https://bandwagonhost.com/aff.php?aff=81656&pid=87
② The device should not have "historical baggage." If the same phone has logged into many Google accounts or has had failed registrations recently, its fingerprint is "dirty." A brand new device or the first registration after a factory reset is the most stable; for bulk accounts, use a fingerprint browser with an independent fingerprint and independent IP for each account.
③ Align time zone, language, and IP. If the IP is in the US but the system is in Chinese time zone/language, this discrepancy easily triggers verification. Try to match all three.
④ Act like a real person. Don't fill and click instantly. Fill in the name and birthday like a real person (adult, normal English name), and pause for a few seconds at each step.
In short: I was able to skip all the way because my environment was clean. The prerequisite for you to replicate this is to clean up your environment first.
Complete Registration Steps
- Open the Gmail App, click the avatar in the top right

- Scroll to the bottom of the account list, click "Add another account"

- Select "Google" (not iCloud / Outlook)

- Don't enter an email on the login page; click "Create account" in the bottom left

- Fill in the name (Last name is optional, first name should look like a real person)

- Fill in birthday and gender (Set as an adult, otherwise it triggers extra minor verification)

- Choose a system-recommended or create your own Gmail address

- Set a password (letters + numbers + symbols, check "Show password" to verify)

- On the "Add phone number" page, click "Skip" in the bottom left (This step is the key to no phone number)

- Review account info → Agree to privacy terms → Done

After step 10, the account is created without using a single phone number.
Recommended Actions After Successful Registration
If you want to add a layer of recovery protection, you can bind a phone number yourself after registration (as shown in my picture)—at this point, binding is your choice rather than forced, making it much more controllable. Of course, you can also choose not to bind and use a recovery email instead.
I tested binding my +86 phone number here, and it passed smoothly. If possible, it's recommended to bind an overseas phone number, such as the UK giffgaff, which has a high unlock rate and low maintenance cost.

Also, don't go wild immediately after registering. Use it normally for a few days (send/receive emails, watch YouTube) to "warm up" the account. Try to stick to the same clean line for logging in; frequent IP switching will also trigger risk control.
Summary
Registering a Google account without a phone number in 2026 is indeed feasible.
The key points are two: first, knowing that the "Skip" button can be clicked; second, having a clean enough registration environment so Google has no reason to block you. Anyone can click a button, but the environment is the real barrier.
