A former engineer details his 8-month journey growing two X accounts to 15,000 followers and generating ¥20M in revenue. He shares specific tactics including leveraging quotes, optimizing article titles, and using YouTube analytics to find engaging topics.

It has been 8 months since I seriously started using 𝕏.

Here is where I am now with two accounts.

  • Followers: 0 → 15,000 (combined for both accounts) @enginner_dog
  • Posts with over 1 million impressions: 50
  • 𝕏 Articles: 24, average 2.8 million impressions
  • Max impressions for a single post: 19 million
  • Trending topics: Countless times
  • Sales via 𝕏: ¥0 → approx. ¥20 million
  • Book publication decided
五代 on X — cover

When I started, I was just an engineer in manufacturing.

Now, I serve as the representative of a corporation that provides technical consulting for companies and runs an online cram school for engineers.

I am not particularly good at writing. Yet, I achieved this much.

I will hold my first and last 𝕏 study session.

If you don't want to miss it, join the open chat here:

https://x.gd/HRSVY

I will list what I did over these 8 months in order.

The revenue structure is roughly like this

  • Online cram school for engineers
  • Technical consulting for companies
  • Subscription for apps I developed personally

These two account for about 70%. The rest is from 𝕏 and AI-related businesses.

Everything starts from 𝕏.

No matter how much I wrote, I only got dozens of impressions

Before this, I was just lurking on 𝕏.

Even when I started posting, I was writing detailed stories about programming, and no matter how many posts I made, I only got dozens of impressions.

The turning point was joining an 𝕏 consultant program

Rojin-san, who has consulted for over 1,000 companies on 𝕏, told me this face-to-face at the beginning:

"Honestly, nobody cares about manufacturing."

He was right.

I changed my writing style here.

Broad entry points, low reading burden. Mix what you want to convey into that.

Here are the four things I did:

① Quotes

② 𝕏 Articles

③ Explaining phenomena to increase the proportion of my perspective

④ Single posts only

① At first, quotes were 90% of my strategy

When you are nobody, your own words don't reach anyone.

  • Quote people with high perspectives
  • Articulate what they can't say themselves
  • Get them to spread it for you

If the original poster reacts, your post flows to their followers.

This is the only place where a nobody gets read.

Add only 1-3 lines of text.

Make it concrete by translating it to your industry.

If you talk too long, the original story disappears.

The argument that "borrowing authority's words means you have no voice of your own" is shallow.

Using authority itself doesn't matter.

What matters is demonstrating the ability to reach people.

Even when I had triple-digit followers, if it hit, this happened:

五代 - inline image

Repost notifications from Yoshitaka Kitao (SBI Chairman), Yutori-kun, and Shintaro Tabata.

Follower count doesn't matter.

Did you articulate what the other person really wanted to say, in the appropriate form?

That alone makes established figures spread it.

This quote format was discussed as a "foolproof method" in my dialogue with Rojin-san.

五代 - inline image

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3D7ownfliQ&t=163s

This built my foundation.

② 𝕏 Articles: Not one hit in the first 2 months

What I thought: Only articles by strong accounts go viral.

Reality: Articles that get quoted and spread go viral.

I learned this structure and practiced it exactly. My account power grew.

Here is what I learned during those 2 months of failure:

Articles are 80% determined by title and theme.

No matter how carefully you write the body, if it isn't opened, it might as well not exist.

So every time, I put numbers, proper nouns, and specifics in the title.

Titles with only abstract words like "3 Values" or "Future of ~" never grew.

Another thing. Articles that get quoted and spread have commonalities:

They don't say everything; they leave room for the quoter to add "In my industry, it's like this."

After fixing this, I wrote 24 articles, averaging 2.8 million impressions.

Everyone around me who has exceeded 10,000 followers followed this exact order.

③ Explain phenomena to increase the proportion of your own perspective

① and ② rely mainly on quotes. Here, I increased the proportion of my own perspective.

What I do is explain world events through my own lens.

If impressions come in, it proves that perspective resonates.

Place your service on that extension line.

For example, this post got 19 million impressions:

https://x.com/enginner_dog/status/2039532929853128753

From here on, it's a battle of skill.

𝕏 instantly sees through skill. So skilled people are properly evaluated.

There are 4 elements of interest

This is my primary information.

When bringing up topics with friends, seniors, or executives offline, you must make them find it slightly interesting.

I use "Are these 4 included?" as a metric.

It was the same on 𝕏.

Impressions = Not being skipped.

Breaking down why fingers stop reveals 4 factors.

This is the conclusion after reading many books, listening to scholars, and running 𝕏 for 8 months.

It's my theory, so discard it if it doesn't fit.

1. Gap

五代 - inline image

Brains react to "disparity."

Tension and relief. Scandals are read for the same structural reason.

Small starting point, big result.

Cheap item, large amount.

The bigger the difference, the more people stop.

For C-pla posts: "¥50k/month for 5 units" to "¥7 million for 1 store."

For my articles: "Dozens of impressions" to "19 million impressions."

Don't write topics where you can't create a gap.

2. Desire

五代 - inline image

Brains only process things relevant to themselves.

Like hearing your name in a crowd.

Career, money, time, evaluation.

People instantly judge "Does this benefit me?"

So include a sentence at the end landing on "Can I do this myself?"

For C-pla: "FC initial investment estimate is approx. ¥10 million+."

The moment readers translate it to their situation, they bookmark it.

3. Visibility

五代 - inline image

Brains perceive easy-to-read things as "correct" and "liked."

Evaluation rises just because processing is light.

One piece of info per line.

Connect Year → Event → Number with arrows.

Don't explain in sentences. List them.

Whether it's understandable in an instant is judged before content.

4. Curiosity

五代 - inline image

Seemingly visible but invisible. Seemingly understandable but not. Brains want to fill this state.

Dopamine comes out here, driving action.

For videos and posts, first create "interest" to make them chase. Images create this state in 1 second.

Algorithmically, images extend dwell time and broaden display.

Don't compete with text alone.

Stop the first second with an image, fill the rest with text.

What all 4 share is Distance

五代 - inline image

Billions of dollars, America, geniuses.

The moment people feel "lack of reproducibility," they drop off.

Gaps should be big.

But within a range where readers think "I could reach that too."

A scheme of ¥50k in 1 month is read more than ¥10 billion in 1 month.

Sincerity and passion transmit better in the latter.

Write as if giving "truly achievable information" to your family, colleagues, or students.

That distance is the premise for all 4.

Include all 4

Life Fit and C-pla both include all 4.

  • Gap: ¥500k → 400 stores, 5 units → 263 stores
  • Desire: Is this a mechanism usable for my business?
  • Visibility: Year → Event → Number listed with arrows
  • Curiosity: Photos of the store

My only image while writing:

Conveying "This business model is good" to an executive acquaintance at an izakaya or cafe.

Seems useful, becomes a business insight.

Write assuming you think it's good.

However, this depends on human sensibility, so reproducibility is thin.

Therefore, the next method is the best for reproducibility.

Pick topics from YouTube 'humps'

*Note: This is minor know-how, but I rarely hear others mention it.

Currently shared only with consulting clients.*

You can't write about things you aren't interested in.

But basing it on "things noticed on the street" lacks reproducibility between those who notice and those who don't.

Everyone should do reproducible operations.

So take topics from YouTube and news sites.

Reason: Numbers are visible.

Open a YouTube video, and there are lines above the playback bar.

Some parts bulge up ('humps').

These are "parts replayed most often."

五代 - inline image

These humps are places where the majority showed the most interest and rewatched.

Taking places already reacted to by the masses is safer than choosing by your own sense.

Do these 4 things:

  1. Open videos close to your industry's themes
  2. Watch only the hump parts
  3. Write one sentence on why this was rewatched
  4. Translate it to your industry

News sites are the same.

Take from top access rankings.

These are also places already reacted to by the masses.

五代 - inline image

Nikkei access ranking. These 5 updated at 8:00 are today's 'humps'.

Another perspective when picking:

"Is there an angle different from everyone else?"

Even looking at the same hump, if you write with the same angle as everyone, you get buried.

Every time, look for one viewpoint no one else is saying.

Since I founded a company in an untapped market and am in my 3rd term, finding such places is my strength.

Differentiation is decided at the topic-picking stage.

If you stop at "I'm interested," it disappears by the next day.

Writing even one sentence allows you to return to it when posting.

Apply picked topics to a 10-step template

I don't turn picked topics into text from scratch every time.

I apply them to a template.

Compare the recent 2 posts to see:

https://x.com/godai_ceo/status/2099752793515106427

五代 - inline image

The face of a man stuck at 7kg side raises for 2 years.

Life Fit and C-pla are written the same way.

Founding year → Turning point → Current numbers → 3 differences seen as a customer → One final sentence

Only the topic differs; the skeleton is one.

Broken down, it's 10 steps.

Fill them in order after picking, so writing time is short.

Writing skill doesn't matter.

Reproducibility lies in this template part. Topics vary by person, but the template yields the same shape for anyone.

Recently, a C-pla post written with this template exceeded 2.9 million impressions and trended in 2 days.

五代 - inline image

Where it appeared in 𝕏 Trend Summary.

https://x.com/godai_ceo/status/2104103772687409189

Pick from humps, flow into the template. That's all I do.

This 10-step template is given as one of the gifts in the announcement below.

④ Now only single posts. Persona: 'Executives wanting to run 𝕏'

After exceeding 5,000 followers, I stopped using articles and only used single posts.

Why is explained by Rojin-san in our dialogue:

五代 - inline image

Difference between posts and articles (from dialogue with Rojin-san)

Summary:

  • My prospects are decision-makers/executives
  • So I needed to build account power quickly to compete with single posts

Articles and posts target different audiences.

五代 - inline image
  • 𝕏 Articles: For general public at lowered level. Broad entry.
  • Single Posts: Content is harder. For high-literacy layer who reads thoroughly.

If going viral, posts are more rational for my attributes and operation style.

I do this intentionally.

I haven't abandoned articles.

They are algorithmically favored, so it's wasteful not to use them.

Use 𝕏 Articles when content for the high-literacy layer overflows beyond single posts.

That positioning.

Current aim: Show reactions under conditions less favorable than articles.

Another surprising number:

Analyzing 8 months of analytics revealed that normal days have higher follower acquisition efficiency per impression than viral days.

  • Virality reaches distant people
  • Normal posts reach nearby people
  • Nearby people follow

So instead of making 1 viral attempt per month, post normally every day.

I haven't changed this order.

Things I've been conscious of recently

I watch these 3 people for high engagement:

  • Amateur Hotel Reconstruction Plan (@4610_hotel): Famous short video creator
  • Kei Tanaka (@KeiTanaka_Radio): Ex-Goldman Sachs. Especially high engagement on 𝕏
  • yumi (@misojiyuu): Overwhelmingly highest among those I follow

I also consciously watch people mentioned by Kei Tanaka as "good at 𝕏" in his dialogue with Amateur Hotel.

五代 - inline image

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGbidsTg68c&t=2557s

五代 - inline image

yumi. Highest engagement among follows. 192 likes on 3,308 views, 5.8% reaction rate (1% is usually considered high).

High engagement is very reference-worthy.

Common to all 3: Emotional value.

Pushing themselves out. Broadcasting themselves.

To emit emotional value, appearing yourself is the quickest way.

This is my current theory.

So recently I've been including my photos.

Engagement has actually improved, so I'll continue this direction.

(I also want Kei Tanaka to think I'm "good at 𝕏".. lol)

Before and After of 8 Months

Before:

𝕏 was for lurking only.

Engineer account had dozens of impressions.

Godai account had 0 followers.

Sales via 𝕏 were ¥0.

DM sent to Rojin-san when joining 𝕏 consultant:

五代 - inline image

Now:

15,000 followers across 2 accounts.

50 posts with over 1 million impressions.

24 𝕏 Articles, avg 2.8 million impressions.

Sales via 𝕏 approx. ¥20 million.

My mentor now calls me "God." lol

五代 - inline image

For the past 2 months, I've served as a sub-instructor for 𝕏 consultants, teaching others.

Unexpected Growth Happened

Received technical consulting request from a manufacturing company much larger than mine.

Book publication also decided.

No jobs acquired through sales pitches.

All came as "Could you please help us?" A situation where selling without pitching was created.

五代 - inline image

From dialogue "Specific 𝕏 Monetization Funnel." Direct conversion from broadcasting.

Clients are also getting results:

  • 2 months: Followers 300 → 4,500
  • Within 1 month: First-ever 1 million impressions achieved
  • 1 month start: 250 leads acquired
  • 6 𝕏 Articles: Approx. ¥9 million sales
五代 - inline image

It's Not Just Me

𝕏 Consultants total over 1,000 companies. Most executives active on 𝕏 participate.

From freelancers to companies with billions in annual revenue. Some results:

  • Over ¥5 million sales in 2 weeks
  • 150+ attendees at briefing sessions with ¥0 recruitment cost, hired 10+
  • 5,000 followers in 1 month
  • Over ¥4 million sales via X in 2 months
  • Over 80% of job inquiries via X
  • Hired 5 full-time employees, ¥30 million sales

All are seasoned executives, and it's a place for direct exchange.

𝕏 is a leverage media, so it works more effectively with larger real-world scale.

Above all, baseline values break.

An atmosphere where "1 million impressions is normal" exists here.

Participating or not creates a difference in future business scale. First-mover advantage still exists.

Why Executives Don't Do 𝕏

"I should probably do it soon."

Executives likely feel this faintly.

Treating it as "just SNS" and doing it self-taught stops at dozens of impressions like old me.

Opportunity loss accumulates during that time.

What is 𝕏 operation? Its power, content, and latest status.

I created a place to discuss this with Rojin-san, who has consulted for 1,000+ companies.

五代 - inline image

Even President Hayashi praised it.

Such opportunities won't come for a while.
