Foreword
This is the crash course version of the "Xianyu Money-Making Nanny-Level Tutorial." I previously released 8 full chapters, and some students gave feedback: "It's very detailed, but can you make a short version suitable for beginners to start quickly?" Here it is!
The content I am providing here for free is what others sell for 1,000 to 3,000 RMB in coaching programs. You can bookmark this to prevent losing it, or follow for more updates.
Tutorial Goals
- Increase Knowledge: Understand the gameplay and common routines of the Xianyu platform, and learn the basics of no-stock (dropshipping) e-commerce operations.
- Essential Freelance Skills: Learn how to quickly sell your idle items and how to take orders to make money on Xianyu.
- Side Hustle Project: Run your own small business on Xianyu and obtain side hustle income.
Common Questions
Before starting the tutorial, let's answer two common questions.
Can you still do Xianyu in 2026?
For every project, people ask: It's already 20XX, can I still do it?
My answer is: Absolutely yes!
There are several reasons:
- The background of consumption downgrade: During an economic downturn, the public tends to downgrade consumption and prefers shopping on idle/second-hand platforms like Xianyu, Zhuanzhuan, and Aihuishou to save money.
- The platform user base is large enough: Xianyu started charging a 0.6% handling fee in September 2024. If the platform didn't have enough users and users hadn't formed the habit of selling idle items there, people wouldn't use it after the fees were introduced.
- The platform is constantly improving: The new version of Xianyu has added many features like shopping notes, local services, and food delivery coupons. For the platform, it's all about profit; if there was no money to be made, they wouldn't add so many features.
- AI Virtual Products/Services: After 2025, virtual products and services driven by AI have highly developed. Many people sell their AI skills or take outsourcing work on Xianyu. For example, during the 2026 Lunar New Year, OpenClaw became very popular, and many people made a fortune providing "AI Crawfish Installation" services on Xianyu.
So, Xianyu is definitely viable in 2026, and I predict it will be for the next few years.
However, in 2026, as more sellers flood in, competition is indeed more intense than before.
So don't go in with the mindset of "earning tens of thousands a month and reaching the pinnacle of life" immediately. Instead, treat Xianyu e-commerce as a side hustle or a freelance order-taking platform.
Do you need startup capital for Xianyu?
It depends:
- If you are doing physical e-commerce, you need capital to pay for stock. But if you lack funds, you can use Huabei, monthly payments, or credit cards to delay payment, and then pay it back after receiving the buyer's money. In a sense, this is a zero-cost start.
- If you are doing virtual e-commerce selling materials, you need capital to buy the materials, which usually costs only a few dozen RMB.
- If you are doing virtual e-commerce selling AI services, you need capital for AI subscriptions and token fees.
So the conclusion is: You can basically start with nothing.
Someone might ask: "What if I get a huge burst of orders and have no money to ship?"
You're thinking too far ahead. Get the orders first! Once you have them, you'll find a way.
1 Opening a Shop
1.1 Equipment
One mobile phone, one SIM card.
Install the Alipay app and Xianyu app.
1.2 Binding and Real-Name Verification
Enter the Xianyu app (update to the latest version), log in, and go to "Settings" in the top right corner of the "My" page.
Enter "Account & Security," bind your Alipay account, upload your identity information, and complete real-person and Alipay real-name verification.
Enter "Payment Methods," bind Alipay for receiving payments, and enable WeChat payments.
1.3 Privacy Settings
Enter "Privacy Settings,"
- Turn off "Allow viewing my following/followers list."
- Set "Range of viewing my dynamics" to "Invisible." (Dynamics show your sales; if your sales are good, competitors might target you, so keep it hidden.)
1.4 Basic Information
Gender
Unless you are selling hardware, machinery, motorcycle travel, or e-sports (which are more male-oriented), choose female for other categories.
This reduces customer defensiveness and makes disputes easier to handle. (This is based on collective experience, not my personal stance.)
Nickname
If you choose female, use a feminine nickname like "Xiao Ruan" or "Jia Jia."
Use the structure "Name + Category," such as XX Digital, XX Games, XX Toys, XX Home, XX Appliances, XX Factory, XX Source Supplier, XX Official Store, etc.
If you don't know how to name it, refer to the top sellers in your category.
Nicknames can only be changed once every 30 days. If you haven't decided on a category, don't change it yet.
Avatar
If the gender is female, use a feminine avatar. If you're stuck, use an anime avatar or refer to competitors.
Bio
- Identity: Physical store owner, factory direct.
- Keywords: Clearance special, wholesale price for even one piece.
Other Personal Info
Fill in "Birthday," "Interests," "School Name," and "Residence" randomly. It's best to fill them all to increase shop credibility.
Fish Shop Info
If you have opened a Fish Shop (Pro Seller):
- Choose the "Field" you want to sell in. (Note: The platform's traffic will lean towards this category, and it takes time to change it later.)
- For physical goods, "Identity" is usually "Physical Store Owner" or custom "Source Factory"; for virtual goods, it's flexible.
- "Fish Shop Description" should highlight your strengths, like "Factory Direct."

2 Product Titles
2.1 The Role of Titles
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) on e-commerce platforms refers to optimizing product rankings in internal search results so that users can find your links more easily, thereby gaining more free traffic.
2.2 Referencing Competitors
Find competitors selling the same or similar products on Xianyu, 1688, Taobao, JD, Pinduoduo, or Douyin, and copy their titles.
For example, search for "Stylus" on Xianyu and find a link with many "Wants":

The title is:
[Order directly if needed, low price spike] Stylus Touch Pen for iPad Active Stylus Tablet Handwriting Pen Apple Pencil Alternative
Use AI to modify the part after the prefix [Order directly if needed, low price spike] with this prompt:
1Rewrite this e-commerce product title to avoid duplication:23 [Paste target title]
Grok's result:
Active iPad Stylus Touch Handwriting Pen Tablet Drawing Pen Apple Pencil Alternative
You can keep or modify the prefix.
Avoid "Ad" Links
When choosing target links, exclude those with the "Ad" (广告) label, as these are paid promotions and might not have good titles.

Avoid Content Duplication
Try not to copy titles or details exactly within the same platform, as the platform may flag it as duplicate listing and limit traffic. Modify it slightly or copy across platforms.
2.3 Composition of a Product Title
On mature platforms like Taobao or JD, learn from high-selling titles.
Suppose you want to sell an "Air Fryer." Search on Taobao and find the top sellers:

The title is:
Midea Air Fryer Household New Model Visible No-Flip Electric Air Fryer Cooking Machine Large Capacity Official Hualing
Components:
- Product Word (Core): Midea Air Fryer
- Search Association Words (High-volume features): Household, Visible, No-Flip, Electric Air Fryer, Cooking Machine, Large Capacity
- Auxiliary Words (Brand/Official/Promo): New Model, Official, Hualing
Most search association words are Long-tail Keywords. These are specific, precise keyword combinations. Adding high-volume, low-competition long-tail keywords can increase exposure for small shops.
2.4 Swapping Order
You can create a new title by swapping the order of keywords:
- Keep the product word fixed.
- Swap search keywords.
- Add or remove auxiliary words.
Original: Midea Air Fryer Household New Model Visible No-Flip Electric Air Fryer Cooking Machine Large Capacity Official Hualing
Modified: Midea Air Fryer Household Large Capacity Visible No-Flip New Model Electric Air Fryer Cooking Machine Official Hualing
Spaces are optional but count toward character limits in the backend.
2.5 Title Integration
If you know you are selling a "Joyoung Air Fryer," you can integrate titles.

Search for "Joyoung Air Fryer" on Taobao and find the top title:
Joyoung Air Fryer Household Multi-functional All-in-one 2026 New Model Electric Oven Official Flagship Store Government Subsidy
Merge the search association words from both Midea and Joyoung titles to get a new one:
Joyoung Air Fryer Household Visible No-Flip Large Capacity Multi-functional All-in-one 2026 New Model Electric Oven Electric Air Fryer Cooking Machine Official Flagship Store
Put important keywords at the front.
2.6 More Association Words
Use "Douyin Index" (formerly Ocean Engine) to search for product words and see real user data for associated terms.

For an air fryer, you might add food-related keywords like "Chicken Breast" or "French Fries."
2.7 Do Not Over-Stack
Keyword Stacking makes the title look unnatural and can lead to platform penalties like traffic limits or delisting.
2.8 Prefix Words
Prefixes like [Order directly if needed, low price spike] are the first things users read. Use them for core selling points, price advantages, or logistics (e.g., Free Shipping, SF Express).
2.9 Iterating Titles
Perform A/B testing with titles and main images to see which combination has the highest click-through and conversion rates.

3 Product Images
3.1 Planning Product Images
You can add up to 9 images. The first is the Cover/Main Image.
Main Image: Usually 1:1 or 3:4. It determines if users click.
Other Images: Multi-angle views, usage scenarios, accessories, packaging, stock photos, price comparisons.
3.2 Image Sources
Xianyu images should ideally be real photos, not polished studio shots. Get them from competitor links, review sections, or other e-commerce review sections.

Notes:
- Don't copy directly from Xianyu competitors (you might get reported).
- Don't use official main images from Taobao/JD (brands will report you for infringement).
3.3 Making Images
Crop images to 3:4 and keep the product centered. Use Meitu Design Studio (PC) or Meitu Xiu Xiu (Mobile).

Notes:
- Don't add too many messy stickers.
- Don't include unrelated products in the main image.
3.4 Tags
You can add up to 10 tags per image. Use Douyin Index to find keywords. Tags show up on the detail page.

4 Product Details
4.1 Product Information
Get attributes from the source (e.g., 1688).

4.2 Copywriting
Structure: Title + Basic Info + SKU/Price + Logistics + After-sales + Usage Experience + Seller Promise.

4.3 Pricing
Gross profit for items under 500 RMB is usually around 10%. Factor in platform fees (0.6% for the first 10k monthly revenue, 1.6% above that).
4.4 Low-Price Baiting
Method 1: Low-price accessory SKU.
Method 2: Fictional SKU. Create a fictional SKU (e.g., a smaller size) and mark it as "Out of Stock" to lower the displayed price.
4.5 Publishing City
Use Douyin Index to see which cities have the highest interest in your product and set your location there.

5 Product Selection
5.1 Importance of Selection
Selection is the "1," and operation skills are the "0s" that follow. Good selection sells itself.
5.2 Shop Positioning
Focus on a specific user group (Vertical + Slight expansion).
5.3 Referencing Competitors
Copy the selection of top competitors. Look for high-level Fish Shops.

5.4 Hot Lists
Check Xianyu's internal hot lists for each category.

5.5 Specific Brands/Models
Sort by sales on other platforms to find the exact popular models.

5.6 Testing Products
"Selection is tested, not chosen." If a product doesn't get 10 orders in 3 days with operations, move on.
6 Sourcing and Shipping
6.1 Sourcing Platforms
1688 and Pinduoduo cover 95% of needs.
6.2 Shipping Methods
When a customer orders, you order from the source using their info. This is being a middleman.
Trace-less Shipping:
- 1688: Remark "Trace-less shipping, no cards."
- Pinduoduo: Ask the seller if they can omit cards/SMS. If they refuse, find another seller. If the customer sees Pinduoduo info, tell them "The Pinduoduo shop is also ours; subsidies vary by platform."
7 Daily Operations and Quick Sales
7.1 Daily Operations
- Daily Listings: Post at least one new link every 1-2 days.
- Daily Check-in: Boosts account activity.
- Daily Polish: Use the "Polish All" button to refresh listing times.
7.2 Order Boosting (Fake Orders)
Boosting helps with cold starts and signals to the platform that your link is worth promoting.
7.3 Little Yellow Fish
Search for "Little Yellow Fish" (小黄鱼) in the search bar to find communities where beginners help each other boost orders.
8 Sales Scripts and After-sales
8.1 Sales Scripts
Prepare scripts for authenticity, condition, and sourcing questions.
8.2 Handling Sourcing SMS
If a customer gets a Pinduoduo SMS, explain that you use their logistics for shipping subsidies to lower the price for the customer.
8.3 After-sales
If there are minor defects, get a partial refund from the source and pass some to the customer while keeping the difference.
