Today I gave some portfolio feedback. I've written it down because I think it would be helpful for others to refer to as well!
- There are many cases where people put too much effort into the cover and table of contents, but the actual design pages are disappointing.
- Put AI projects at the very front and make them your largest projects. There's nowhere that doesn't use them these days.
- Include 1-2 projects per section in the table of contents. Branding, UX/UI, print, video, etc...
- It's better to have about 6 well-polished projects in your portfolio.
- One or two well-polished pieces are better than cramming in many. If it's mediocre, it's better to leave it out. Otherwise, they might think you lack the eye to distinguish poor work.
- Color-correct CMYK print materials to RGB before inserting them.
- Don't just put an A4 print layout directly into a PPT; reconfigure it for the web.
- Excluding dummy text, font sizes should be 22pt or larger! Many hiring managers are in their 40s or older. They can't read 10pt fonts.
- Branding page structure - 1 page for planning + system / 1-2 pages for logo and variations / die-line grids, package mockups / final production shots.
- Use the latest device mockups. Don't use iPhone 12 mockups anymore ㅠㅠ.
- Easy way to search for mockups: Search for "free mockup" on Behance and Pinterest to find sources you can use for personal/non-commercial purposes.
- UX/UI page structure - App planning / User target and problem-solving methods (refer to many references for this part) / System and component assets / UX/UI screens / Mockup production shots.
- Use mockups based on actual use cases. Ex) Local mascot design >> Research how local mascots are actually used and then apply your character.
Good luck to everyone in their job search!!
