1. Introduction
I haven't been on Twitter much lately because life has been busy, but since I have some time today, I want to introduce the story of Neville Goddard, known as a master of the Law of Attraction, and his teacher Abdullah, along with the 5 core laws of attraction they discussed.
Since the story of Neville Goddard I'm about to share is essentially the origin of the Law of Attraction, I believe it contains only the most essential content, and I consider this to be the root of the Law of Attraction.
Even Neville Goddard, who is now known as a master, had times when he struggled with the Law of Attraction just like us. He was able to become a master through the teachings of his mentor, Abdullah. I decided to write this article because I believe sharing the teachings Abdullah passed on to him will be a great help to those who find the Law of Attraction difficult.
It might be a bit long, but if you focus for just 5 minutes and read this article, you will surely gain core insights into the Law of Attraction.
2. The Story of Neville Goddard and His Teacher Abdullah
Neville Goddard was from Barbados, a small island in the Caribbean. He was a young man who moved to New York dreaming of a wider world. He worked as a dancer and had a deep interest in art and philosophy, eventually becoming the figure known as the master of the Law of Attraction.
The year was 1933, the year Roosevelt was elected president. Neville had been in the U.S. for 11 years and had no intention of returning to Barbados. That year, his parents visited New York and pleaded with him to return with them, but Neville refused and saw them off at the ship.
However, strangely enough, immediately after seeing them off, an intense desire to go to Barbados—something he hadn't felt once in the past 11 years—suddenly washed over him. This was despite the fact that he had just rejected his parents' offer, which would have covered all his expenses.
Meeting with Teacher Abdullah
Neville visited his long-time friend Abdullah and shared these strange feelings. Abdullah was a Black man from Ethiopia who grew up in the Jewish faith.
After hearing Neville's story, Abdullah spoke firmly.
"You are already in Barbados."
To Neville, who was standing on 72nd Street West in New York's Central Park, this made no sense at all. A few days later, when Neville said he was "still no closer to Barbados," Abdullah explained more specifically:
"You must not discuss the 'how' or the means of going to Barbados. You must actually live there in your imagination. Sleep in Barbados, and look at the world from there. Then the means will appear naturally, and you will go to Barbados."
The Trial of Faith
It was late October, and even by late November, there were no realistic changes. When Neville again said he was "no closer to Barbados," Abdullah said, "You are in Barbados," and then went into his bedroom and slammed the door.
This was Abdullah's unique way of teaching a lesson in 'faith.'
The last ship from New York to Barbados was scheduled to depart on December 6th, and he had to catch that ship to arrive before Christmas.
Miraculous Realization
On the morning of December 3rd or 4th, Neville received an unexpected letter from his brother Victor. Neville had never told anyone in his family that he wanted to go to Barbados. His brother wrote in the letter:
"Since we became a family, there hasn't been a single time we've all gathered for Christmas. This time, it looks like you're the only one missing."
His brother enclosed $50 for travel expenses. During the Great Depression, when there were 17.5 million unemployed people in a country of 120 million, $50 was a very large sum, and Neville was also unemployed.
His brother had already notified the shipping company to issue a ticket, and said he would settle the remaining costs on credit on the ship and pay it back once Neville arrived.
When Neville rushed to the shipping company, the clerk said, "First class is sold out, so there's only third class left."
When Neville told Abdullah this, Abdullah spoke firmly once again.
"Who said you were going in third class? You have already gone to Barbados in first class."
And on the morning of departure, the ticket office clerk told Neville:
"A cancellation has occurred, so you can now go in first class."
Neville finally headed to Barbados in first class.
3. 5 Core Laws of Attraction
Through the story of Neville Goddard and Abdullah, we can learn the 5 core laws of attraction. I will summarize those five now.
I hope you remember these 5 core laws as they are the foundation of the Law of Attraction.
1. Imagination is the Creator of Reality
Neville wanted to go to Barbados but had no money, no method, and no plan. Abdullah did not consider those realistic conditions a problem at all. He emphasized only one thing: "Where are you in your imagination at this moment?"
Abdullah's logic was this: The essence of a human being is not the body but the imagination, and everything that exists in reality now once existed first in someone's imagination. Reality does not create imagination; imagination creates reality.
2. Worrying About the Means is a Hindrance
When Neville first said he wanted to go to Barbados, the natural thoughts would have been, "How do I get the fare? Who should I ask? What route should I take?"
However, Abdullah thoroughly blocked such thoughts.
"You must not discuss the 'how' or the means of going to Barbados."
Worrying about the means is based on the premise that you haven't arrived there yet. At that moment, you are remaining at the starting point in your imagination. The method Abdullah taught is the exact opposite. The means are not a problem for me to solve; they are something the universe creates on its own when I am in the correct state of consciousness.
In fact, Neville didn't request anything, but his brother sent a letter on his own, and the third-class ticket suddenly changed to first-class.
3. You Must Not 'Look Toward the Desired State' but 'Look at the World From Within That State'
This is the most subtle yet most important part of Abdullah's teaching. Many people look at their goals from afar and desperately want them.
However, that is merely an act of repeatedly confirming that the goal is always 'far away.'
What Abdullah taught was completely different.
It's not looking at Barbados, but going inside Barbados and looking at New York.
Neville actually practiced this. Since Barbados is at 13 degrees north latitude and New York is at 42 degrees, he viewed New York in his imagination as a place 2,000 miles to the northwest. He felt the tropical smells, sounds, and the feeling of the sunset with his whole body, looking at the world as someone who had already arrived, changing the starting point of his perspective itself.
4. Faith is Remaining Unshaken Even Without Realistic Evidence
Starting from October, Neville struggled with the lack of realistic changes until late November, and the departure date of the last ship, December 6th, was just around the corner.
Whenever Neville felt anxious, Abdullah closed the door instead of explaining. This was an intentional teaching.
True faith is not the attitude of "It hasn't happened yet, will it work?" but "It's already done, so it doesn't matter what happens."
If Neville is truly in Barbados in his imagination, no power in the world can stop that journey. Abdullah wanted Neville to reach that unshakable conviction himself, which is why he repeatedly said nothing other than "You are already in Barbados."
5. Realistic Conditions Cannot Stop Imagination
The situation Neville faced was objectively impossible for achieving his dream of going to Barbados.
He was unemployed in the middle of the Great Depression, had no money, and the departure date of the last ship was imminent. A normal person would have given up, saying, "It's realistically impossible right now."
But Abdullah did not see any realistic conditions as obstacles. Even if there were 2,000 miles of ocean between New York and Barbados, and even if he didn't have a penny, if he was already there in his imagination, the external reality would inevitably reorganize itself to match that imagination.
Indeed, even though Neville didn't request or plan anything, his brother's letter and money found him, and the third-class ticket turned into first-class.
Therefore, realistic conditions are merely the results created by your past imagination; they cannot be the starting point for your imagination.
4. Conclusion
Actually, I believe the 5 core laws mentioned above contain the truly important content spoken of in the Law of Attraction.
So, if you internalize these 5 points and make them your own, you will surely be able to quickly attract the dreams you want.
