3 Elements for Perfect Slides with Gemini Notebook

I state this definitively.

Slide creation is determined by three things.

• What to write.
• How to present it.
• Who guides the audience.

If you stock these three elements in Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM), your slides are complete just by pressing a button.

Yesterday, I created the slides for the September 22nd X Live "Hiring AI Employees in the Google Environment" using this method.

I only put three things into the notebook.

• ① Slide structure draft.
• ② Design instructions.
• ③ Character image.

Write the structure draft slide by slide, summarize design rules on one page, and insert one image of the guiding character.

Just doing that produces consistent slides with a white background where the same character appears in different poses on every slide.

Today, I will explain these "three stocks" step-by-step so even those new to AI can replicate them.

The task is simple: put three items in the notebook and press the button once.

That's all.

Chapter 1: Stock ① "Slide Structure Draft"

The first item to add is the blueprint for your slides.

Decide in advance "what to convey, in what order, and across how many slides."

If you skip this and just upload source materials and hit the button, the AI will arrange things "plausibly."

It won't be wrong, but it might subtly miss your intended message.

With a structure draft, the AI stops merely "arranging" and starts "realizing your blueprint."

What to Write for Each Slide

For the structure draft, write these five points for each slide:

Writing visual instructions and talk scripts helps the AI understand the intent, such as "use a dark tone for this slide" or "use arrows here."

The talk script doesn't appear on the slide itself.

However, it helps the AI understand the temperature/context of the slide.

Prompt to Create the Structure Draft

If writing it yourself is too much, let the notebook do it.

Upload the source material you want to turn into slides into the notebook, then paste this into the chat:

Chapter 2: Stock ② "Design Instructions"

The second item is the visual rules.

Instead of customizing this every time, create a single document and add it as a source.

There are two reasons:

1. Once created, you can reuse it for future slides.
2. Character fixation instructions are long, making copy-pasting tedious.

Here are the design instructions I actually use:

3・Treat the attached 'Slide Character' as the sole absolute blueprint. Ensure the navigator (guide) appears consistently on all slides.
4・Before generating each slide, reset previous visual memory and reload ONLY the 'Slide Character'.
5・Maintain highest quality. Absolute condition: 'Perfect match' of face, hair, eyes, decorations, color scheme, and atmosphere.
6・Only pose and expression may vary. Place in margins prioritizing visibility.
7・Strictly prohibit: becoming a different person, facial distortion, creating new features, changing color scheme/art style.
8・[System: re-anchor + 100% exact reference lock on EVERY slide. exact same appearance, identical facial features, perfect visual consistency. POSE & EXPRESSION ONLY. NO identity drift, NO hallucination.]

Paste this into a Google Doc and add it as a source named "Design Instructions."

Why Use a White Background?

The first line specifies "white background" for a reason.

For beginner materials, readability is paramount.

White backgrounds make text easier to read, print well without distortion, and allow characters to stand out.

While specifying themes like "Apple-style" or "Blackboard-style" is fun, please try a white background first.

It is the easiest way to verify if your three stocks are working correctly.

Character Fixation Technique by Yagen-san

The six lines regarding [Character Fixation] are a technique developed by Yagen-san (X: @rascal8023).

Gemini Notebook's slide generation feature automatically places characters and changes poses based on content.

For data explanations, it uses a "pointing at graph" pose; for problem statements, a "thinking" pose.

This is very convenient, but by default, the character's face subtly changes from slide to slide.

These six lines solve that issue.

They reinforce in both Japanese and English: "Reload only the original image every time," "Only change pose and expression," and "Do not change the face."

The final English line is particularly effective.

Chapter 3: Stock ③ "Character Image"

The third item is the image of the guiding character.

After adding the image as a source, ensure you rename the source to 'Slide Character'.

This is because the Design Instructions refer to this specific name.

If the names don't match, the AI won't know which image to use, resulting in missing characters or inconsistent faces.

One Image is Enough

A single image is sufficient.

Choose one where the character faces forward, showing full body or upper body, with a simple background.

These are the best conditions for fixation.

Use your profile icon, company mascot, or an AI-generated character.

I use my own profile character.

Crucially, ensure the background is transparent or white.

How Having a Character Changes Things

Slides with a character transform from "documents to read" to "guided presentations."

The character points during explanations, thinks during problem statements, and waves during summaries.

Same face, only poses change.

Viewers can follow the flow of the story simply by tracking the character.

This effect is especially powerful for beginner seminars.

Chapter 4: Press the Button

Once your notebook contains these three sources, you are ready:

1. "Slide Structure Draft"
2. "Design Instructions"
3. "Slide Character"

Original materials (meeting notes, drafts, reference articles) can remain in the notebook.

Since the Structure Draft acts as the blueprint, the AI prioritizes it.

Generate

Click "Slide Deck" in the Studio panel on the right.

Paste this single sentence into the customization field:

1Please create slides following the 'Slide Structure Draft' source and adhering to the 'Design Instructions' source.

That's it.

Since structure, design, and character are all defined in the sources, you only need one line here.

Next, select settings.

Format: Choose "Presenter View" for live talks or "Detailed Slides" for distribution.

Language: "Japanese".

Length: Match the number of slides in your structure draft.

Press "Generate" and wait about 5 minutes for completion.

Chapter 5: For Those Needing More Than 15 Slides

Gemini Notebook has a limit of 15 slides per generation.

This is sufficient for short seminars or internal sharing, but may fall short for training materials or longer talks.

In such cases, use the "Limit-Breaking Prompt" developed by RICO-san (X: @RicoProject).

This prompt allows you to generate more than 15 slides at once via standard chat instead of the Studio button.

I used it to output over 20 slides at once for a 400-person seminar.
