Today, we're introducing the Original Content Rewards Program, a new way to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary to X.
The best content on X doesn't stop at resharing what already exists — it adds something new. X has always been powered by people who share what only they can: breaking news, expert insights, firsthand experiences, and commentary that moves culture forward.
As X continues to evolve, we're evolving how creators earn. The Original Content Rewards Program is designed to reward the creators who make X worth opening every day.
The sections below explain how the program works, who is eligible, how creators earn, and what qualifies as original content.
What this means for Revenue Sharing
Starting today, we're no longer accepting new enrollments into Revenue Sharing.
If you’re currently enrolled in Revenue Sharing, you’ll continue earning through September 7th, 2026. You’ll receive three final payouts: two on August 14th and August 28th, in line with the standard payout schedule, and a final payout for earnings accrued through September 7th, expected on or around September 11th.
Starting September 8th, 2026, we'll begin rolling out access for existing Revenue Sharing members to apply for the new Original Content Rewards Program. To join, you'll need to meet the program's eligibility requirements. You can check your eligibility status at any time by going to Creator Studio → Original Content Rewards.
If you've already completed ID verification and have a valid payout method connected to your account, you won't need to complete those steps again. Once approved, you'll continue earning under the Original Content Rewards Program and its Terms and Conditions.
If your account's monetization is currently paused due to a previous policy violation, you will not be eligible to enroll in the Original Content Rewards Program.
The Program
Creating original content takes time, effort, expertise, and creativity.
The Original Content Rewards Program is designed to reward creators who bring those things to X.
We want to recognize creators who break news, share expertise, tell stories, create entertainment, and contribute meaningful perspectives to the conversation.
Our goal is simple: reward creators who bring something new to X.

How do I earn money?
Eligible creators earn money from qualified impressions generated by their original content.
Payouts are issued every two weeks as long as your account and content continue to meet the program's requirements. The first payout for this new program will be issued on August 28th, 2026. Existing Revenue Sharing creators who enroll in Original Content Rewards once they are eligible on or after September 8th, will receive their first payment on September 25th, 2026.
What are qualified impressions?
Qualified impressions are unique impressions from Premium users (subscribers to X Premium Basic, Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business) on the Home Timeline feed, where at least 50% of the post is visible.
The following are excluded from qualified impressions:
- Impressions from the same account counted more than once per post
- Paid, promoted, or artificially generated impressions
- Fraudulent impressions
Eligibility requirements
To apply for the Original Content Rewards Program, you must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Live in a country where the Original Content Rewards Program is available
- Have an account in good standing with no history of repeatedly violating our Monetization Standards or Terms of Service
- Have a Personal or Business account
- Subscribe to X Premium, Premium+, or Premium Business
- Have at least 500 verified followers
- Have at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days (impressions on replies are excluded)
- Regularly post original content
Once you meet these requirements, you can apply through Creator Studio → Original Content Rewards.
We'll review your application and notify you of the outcome within 3 business days.
If your application is not approved, you may submit one appeal. If the appeal is unsuccessful, you can reapply after 90 days, provided you continue to meet all eligibility requirements.
Continuous Eligibility
After joining the program, you must continue to meet the following requirements to remain eligible and receive payouts, including but not limited to:
- Be subscribed to X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business
- Post original and authentic content as defined above
- Avoid malicious or fraudulent activities
- Do not tamper with the program, payout system, or recommendation algorithms
- Do not use automated tools, bots, or any tool or software to artificially generate likes, follows, views, comments, or shares
- Do not make false statements, produce abusive content, or engage in illegal activities in connection with the program
- Do not solicit engagements: repeatedly instructing users to engage with posts, such as asking to like, reply, bookmark, follow, or repost
If your account is found to be in violation of any of the above, you will receive a notification. Depending on the severity of the violation, your account may be temporarily or permanently removed from the Original Content Rewards Program. You may appeal this decision.
The requirements above are not exhaustive. X reserves the right to determine eligibility and take enforcement action for conduct that undermines the integrity, safety, or intended purpose of the program, even if such conduct is not specifically listed above.
Account and content requirements
To receive payouts under the Original Content Rewards Program, your content must also meet the following standards, including but not limited to:
- Be original content as defined in this Article
- Receive impressions from Premium accounts on the Home Timeline
- Comply with our Monetization Standards, Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and Copyright Policy
Content will be ineligible if:
- It is copied or substantially reproduced from another creator
- It is downloaded from X or another platform and reuploaded onto X (unless you are the author of that content)
- It was created or posted using automated means
- It is inappropriate, sexually explicit, or potentially harmful to viewers
- It is exclusively focused on monetization coaching, monetization discussion, or maximizing payouts
- It contains disinformation or misleading content
- It has a helpful Community Note
- It violates our Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, or Copyright Policy
We periodically review accounts in the Original Content Rewards Program for ongoing compliance.
Original content 101
The Original Content Rewards Program is designed to reward creators who contribute original value to the conversation on X.
Original content is content you personally create that reflects your own voice, perspective, expertise, or creativity.
On X, original content comes in many forms. It can be a thread you wrote, a video you filmed, a meme you created, a story you broke, an analysis you published, or commentary that adds a unique perspective to the conversation.
Examples of original content include:
- Original writing, threads, Articles, reporting, or analysis
- Photos or videos you created
- Memes, graphics, illustrations, and other creative work you designed
- Commentary, reactions, or insights that add meaningful perspective to existing conversations
- Content that materially and meaningfully transforms existing content through original context, analysis, narration, humor, or creative editing
Commentary counts
Commentary is at the heart of X. Reacting to, analyzing, explaining, and building on what's happening in the world is one of the things that makes the platform unique.
Commentary, analysis, reactions, memes, and creative interpretations can all qualify as original content when they add something meaningful — perspective, expertise, humor, or context. Many creators start from existing posts, videos, images, screenshots, or cultural moments, and that's fine. What matters is the value they add on top.
If your content regularly incorporates material created by others, you'll need to contribute meaningful original value for it to qualify under our original content guidelines.
How to create eligible original content
Create content that reflects your perspective
The strongest way to qualify for the Original Content Rewards Program is to regularly create content that reflects your own ideas, expertise, reporting, analysis, creativity, or experiences.
Whether you're posting videos, memes, threads, commentary, Articles, or breaking news, your contribution should be the primary source of value.
Add meaningful value when using existing content
Building on existing conversations is a core part of X, but simply reposting someone else's content is not enough.
If you use posts, videos, images, or other third-party content, add meaningful commentary, context, analysis, humor, reporting, or creative transformation that makes the content distinctly yours.
Minor edits such as cropping, filters, borders, watermarks, speed adjustments, or simple text overlays generally do not qualify as meaningful transformation on their own.
Repost when your goal is amplification
If your goal is simply to share another creator's content with your audience, use reposts.
Reposting helps surface great content to your followers while ensuring the original creator receives proper attribution, reach, and engagement.
Ask yourself: What am I adding?
Before posting, consider:
Would this content still be valuable without my contribution?
If the answer is yes, consider adding more of your perspective, expertise, creativity, or commentary before publishing.
Understanding originality
A simple principle to keep in mind is that the value of a post should come primarily from what you add.
If the primary value comes from someone else's content and little or no meaningful value has been added, the content may not qualify as original under the Original Content Rewards Program.
Examples of content that is not original
Content Copied exactly from another account. This is content that includes another creator’s work and that you had no role in creating.
Content downloaded from another account and then re-uploaded onto X as your own.
Content Reposted Without Meaningful Transformation. This includes content created by someone else that has been reposted, re-uploaded, or republished without a meaningful original contribution. Examples of edits that are generally not considered meaningful transformation include:
Adding post captions or text overlays that simply describe what is already happening
Adding summaries that are purely descriptive, are irrelevant, and/or add minimal value
Reposting content with attribution (for example with handles or logos) but without meaningful commentary, analysis, creativity, or context
Reaction posts that add little to no value with limited or absent commentary
Original content and intellectual property
These Original Content Rewards guidelines are separate from X's intellectual property policies.
Content may qualify as original under this program and still violate our intellectual property rules. Creators are responsible for ensuring they have the necessary rights, permissions, or licenses to use content created by others.
As a reminder, posting content that infringes another person's intellectual property rights is not permitted on X, regardless of whether the content would otherwise qualify as original under this program.
