TL;DR

The author introduces a Claude Code skill designed to eliminate generic 'AI slop' aesthetics in app interfaces. It works by starting with a specific visual concept, exploring multiple design directions, and using an automated critique pass to ensure uniqueness and quality.

AI is getting insanely good at building apps, the problem is that they look like a template, extremely basic.

Same rounded cards.

Same soft gradients.

Same dashboard layout.

Same UI with no real idea behind it.

So I made a Claude Code skill that redesigns app interfaces specifically to avoid that.

it starts with a concept

Instead of telling Claude to make something “clean”, “minimal” or “premium”, the skill starts by finding a visual concept that actually fits the app.

A running app can be built around an athletics track.

A sleep app can feel like a village slowly going to sleep.

A plant app can look like a paper cut-out.

An Italian learning app can borrow from Neapolitan playing cards.

That concept becomes the base for the typography, layout, colors, illustrations and motion.

The goal is to stop designing from generic UI patterns and start from an actual idea.

it doesn’t use the first design

One of the biggest problems with AI design is that it commits way too early.

You give it a prompt, it creates one direction, and then everything gets built around that first answer.

This skill forces Claude to explore three different directions first.

Only after comparing them does it continue with one.

That alone makes the final result feel much less predictable.

then it checks its own work

Once the screens are designed, they’re rendered at real iPhone resolution using Apple’s fonts.

Then another critique pass looks for the usual signs of AI-generated UI.

Generic component patterns, weak hierarchy, inconsistent spacing, repetitive cards, unnecessary gradients, layouts that feel like templates instead of products.

If something feels too generic, it gets another pass.

the workflow is:

concept → directions → design → render → critique → refine.

the point isn’t prettier AI, I didn’t make this because AI can’t create attractive interfaces.

It can.

The problem is that attractive and different are not the same thing.

A lot of AI-generated apps look polished in isolation, but put ten of them next to each other and they start feeling like the same product.

The images above are all built to avoid that.

Different apps should feel like different worlds.

That’s basically what the skill is for:

keeping the speed of AI-generated design, without ending up with something that looks like AI generated it.
