Nogi's Unprecedented Rescue Mission: Key Players in VIVANT Episode 19

In Episode 18, the finale of the first half, a "dream team" assembled to save five members of the Special Class (Betsu-han), including Shun Kurosu (Tori Matsuzaka), who were captured by the Chinese counterpart unit known as "Xinxi." The team, led by Nogi's brother-in-law Nokor (Kazunari Ninomiya) and formed from the private military company PMSC Y2K (established by the disbanded terrorist group TENT), included Choky Teapanit (Ohm-Tanapak), a prominent Thai businessman and TENT monitor, and Kotaro Shinjo (Ryo Ryusei), a former Metropolitan Police Public Security Bureau intelligence officer revealed to be alive.

This unprecedented "strongest team," transcending nationalities and organizational boundaries, has begun its rescue mission for the five Betsu-han members.

In today's broadcast of Episode 19, the rescue operation intensifies at Shaki Castle, an impregnable fortress serving as one of Xinxi's bases. Here is a recap of Episodes 11-18 and key points from the official trailer to prepare you for the episode.

[Recap of Eps 11-18] The Turbulent First Half Starting with "Kidnapping of Betsu-han Members" and Formation of the Strongest Team

Since the start of Season 2 in Episode 11, the story moved rapidly following the "serial kidnapping of Betsu-han members."

Five members, including Kurosu, suddenly disappeared, with "Xinxi" operating behind the scenes. Complex motives and foreshadowing intertwined, involving suspicions of betrayal by Mamoru Nozaki of the Foreign Affairs Division 4 and the movements of the undercover Shinjo.

In Episode 17, Satomi Sakurai (Midori Kimura), the supreme commander of the Betsu-han, issued a ruthless order to "poison the five Betsu-han members." However, in Episode 18, encouraged by Toshihiko Nagano (Fumiyo Kohinata), a Maruhishi Corporation executive and Betsu-han member, Nogi decided not to abandon his comrades and challenged the rescue, persuading Sakurai. Thus, seeking cooperation from Nokor and others, a miraculous dream team was formed with the goal: "Everyone returns alive."

"Goal: Everyone Returns Alive!" Can They Breach Shaki Castle's Iron Defense?

The rescue mission moves into actual combat in Episode 19. The stage is "Shaki Castle" in the Republic of Golbad, a "natural fortress" where only one path leads to the castle, and the entire village of Orko along that path acts as lookouts.

Furthermore, the castle interior is equipped with numerous infrared sensors and advanced surveillance systems. Although Nogi's team conducted extensive simulation training, unexpected troubles seem to arise on-site.

From the sky, land, and communication networks, genius hacker "Blue Walker" Riho Ota (Sumire Hanaoka) and cybercrime specialist Shotaro Tojo (Gaku Hamada) join forces. Nogi's team mobilizes all resources to challenge Xinxi's defense network.

Can they save the five Betsu-han members from Shaki Castle and escape Golbad safely? Keep your eyes on this tense rescue operation.

Psychological Warfare Parallel to Shaki Castle Battle and New Crisis in Japan

Parallel to the battle for rescue at Shaki Castle, another fierce struggle unfolds: psychological warfare between Nozaki and Xinxi's leadership.

Facing extreme deprivation, Nozaki receives help from Ryu Minshuen (Masato Sakai / Triple Role), his former agent now belonging to Xinxi. What are Ryu's true intentions when he tells leader Han Linxin (Kyoko Miyashita), "Ultimate love drives people mad"? Where does the scheme to recruit Nozaki lead?

Additionally, the end of the trailer reveals a shocking development: someone sneaks up on Kaoru Yuki (Fumino Kimura), Nogi's lover and a doctor, sleeping at the Nogi residence in Japan. Jamine (Sae Honma), a young girl from Balka, is also present...

Overseas battles and domestic crises intersect, leading the story into unpredictable directions. Attention focuses not only on the rescue at Shaki Castle but also on ominous movements in Japan.

The "Avengers" Finally Activate! Producer Iida Discusses Highlights of Episode 19

Episode 19 marks the beginning of the rescue mission at Shaki Castle. We asked producer Kazutaka Iida about the highlights.

"The second half begins today. With six episodes remaining until the finale on November 8, expect a torrential plot. Please stay with us so you don't get left behind.

The main focus of the second half is whether the Betsu-han members can be rescued. Episode 19 is the curtain opener, where the 'Avengers' centered around Nogi finally begin their activities.

Personally, the key players are Nokor and Kurosu. Nokor, seen in a suit in the trailer, will initially maneuver using intellect rather than force. It was a shoot involving three languages, but Nokor—and actor Kazunari Ninomiya—dominated the scene overwhelmingly. He sensed opponents' expressions, subtle muscle movements, and breathing, receiving actors speaking different languages and performing delicately. I was astonished. Truly impressive.

Also, pay attention to Kurosu's acting, which evokes the counterattack starting here. I vividly remember feeling a sense of fear while watching the monitor during filming. His performance, quietly expressing an inner fire that never breaks, is a must-see.

Furthermore, the footage shot in Azerbaijan, where our VIVANT team spent two and a half months, becomes central from here. You'll enjoy beautiful World Heritage sites visually alongside the story.

Thank you again to everyone who has watched so far. For the remaining six episodes, the staff and cast will deliver with heart. As members of Team VIVANT, please burn these moments into your eyes, ears, and hearts! Thank you!!!"
