Threads video size and upload limits

For a vertical video, 1080 × 1920 px (9:16) is a common working canvas; 1920 × 1080 px works for landscape. The following limits come from the Threads API documentation and apply to API-based publishing, including tools that use it. They are not a blanket specification for every version of the mobile app.

Images via the API

JPEG or PNG, up to 8 MB. Images narrower than 320 px are scaled up; images wider than 1440 px are scaled down. Meta lists an aspect-ratio limit of 10:1 and converts color to sRGB.

Videos via the API

MOV or MP4; H.264 or HEVC video and AAC audio. Up to 1 GB and 300 seconds, 23–60 fps, and a maximum horizontal resolution of 1920 px. Meta recommends 9:16 to avoid cropping or blank space.

Threads image size questions

What is the best image size for Threads?
There is no single required canvas. Start with 1080 × 1350 px for a portrait image, 1080 × 1080 px for a square, or 1440 × 810 px for a landscape image. These are practical export presets. When publishing via the API, also check the 8 MB file limit and JPEG/PNG requirement.
Does Threads crop photos?
The visible framing can vary with the image proportions, placement and screen. This preview shows how a selected crop could look in a feed or carousel. Keep essential text away from the edges and check the final post inside Threads before publishing.
How many images can a Threads carousel contain?
Meta’s Threads API supports 2–20 images or videos in a carousel. This browser preview accepts up to 6 images so you can compare a short series without loading a large batch of files.
Can I upload WebP images?
This preview accepts JPG, PNG and WebP. That does not change Threads publishing requirements: its API documents JPEG and PNG. Convert a WebP file before sending it through an API-based publishing tool.
What size should a Threads profile picture be?
An 800 × 800 px square is a convenient working canvas. It is not an official upload minimum. Center the face or logo and preview the circular crop. Threads has no separate profile cover banner.
Where do my uploaded images go?
The files stay in this browser for the preview. The original files are not changed or sent to YouMind. The creation button opens YouMind with an editable prompt; it does not attach your preview files or start generation automatically.
