TL;DR

A heartwarming anecdote about a dying man who finds peace after just one bite of a cream bunโ€”even though he never actually reached the cream.

I heard this story a long time ago, and I still occasionally remember it and laugh. Apparently, an old man said this right before he passed away:

"Finally... I want to eat a cream bun."

His family rushed out to buy one and handed it to him.

The old man held it with his weak hands and slowly took one bite.

Then, looking satisfied, he said:

"Now... I have no regrets..."

With those final words, he passed away peacefully.

If you only hear this part, it sounds like a slightly poignant story. Like, it's good he got to eat what he wanted at the very end.

But there's a sequel to this story.

Actually, it turns out the old man only ate the edge of the bread and hadn't reached the cream yet.

No, I wanted him to at least get that far before being satisfied! (lol)

But I strangely like this story. It's silly, yet I've remembered it for a long time.

It's not a beautiful ending like in a movie; it's an ending that makes you go, "Wait, there?!"

And I feel like this is a bit like life.

I feel like people are often satisfied while they are on the way to something, rather than with the thing they actually wanted.

Like how the time before a trip is the most exciting. Or how the time before buying something you wanted is the most fun.

The old man who was satisfied without even reaching the cream feels very human. (lol)

Also, what I personally like about this story is that nobody is at fault.

Not the old man, not the family, and not the cream bun.

It's just that the timing was a bit funny. ๐Ÿค
