Describe your video and get three description drafts. Each one opens with what the video is about and keeps your chapters and links exactly as you wrote them.

What happens in the video and who it's for. A script outline works too.0 characters

Drafts are written from what you give and stay within YouTube's 5,000-character limit.

Beginner Sourdough: My First Loaf, Start to Finish

Weekend Loaf
Sourdough for beginners: how I baked my first loaf at home, from making a starter to the first slice. This video walks through each step in a regular home oven: feeding the starter, mixing and folding the dough, shaping it and baking it in a covered pot. It's made for first-time bakers, so every step shows what the dough should look and feel like before you move on. 0:00 Intro 1:12 Making the starter 4:30 Mixing the dough 9:45 Shaping 13:20 Baking and the first slice Recipe card: https://example.com/sourdough #Sourdough #SourdoughForBeginners #HomeBaking

Why it works

Descriptions that match the video you made

  • Written from your video

Openings and summaries are written from what you describe. Links and timestamps are never invented: they only come from what you paste.

  • Your chapters and links, kept as written

Paste timestamps and links once. They're added to every version exactly as you wrote them, in the format YouTube reads as chapters.

  • Three versions to compare

Search-first, personal and short versions share the same chapters, links and three hashtags, so you can pick the voice that fits.

Chapter checker

Check your timestamps before you publish

Paste your timestamps to see whether YouTube will show them as chapters, and which lines to fix if it won't.

Rules from YouTube Help: Video chapters.

Paste your timestamps to check them.

  • Starts at 0:00

The first timestamp has to be 0:00 or 00:00.

  • At least three timestamps

YouTube needs three or more to show chapters.

  • In order, at least 10 seconds apart

Each timestamp comes after the one before, and every chapter lasts at least 10 seconds.

The last chapter also needs to be at least 10 seconds long. That depends on your video's length, so it can't be checked here.

Description anatomy

What goes in a YouTube description

Most descriptions follow the same order. This generator writes the opening, summary and hashtags, and adds your chapters and links as you wrote them.

Based on YouTube Help on descriptions, chapters and hashtags.

  1. Opening lines

The first lines show before viewers click “more”, so say what the video is about right away.

  2. Summary

A few sentences on what the video covers, using the one or two words people would search for.

  3. Chapters

Timestamps starting at 0:00 split longer videos into sections viewers can jump to.

  4. Links

The resources, products or posts you mention in the video, one per line.

  5. Hashtags

Up to three can show by your title. Use more than 60 and YouTube ignores all of them.

How it works

Write a YouTube description in three steps

  1. Describe your video

Say what happens in the video and who it's for. Add the title, a main keyword, chapters and links if you have them.

  2. Compare the versions

Switch between search-first, personal and short, and open “…more” in the preview to read the full description.

  3. Paste it into YouTube Studio

Copy the version you like into the Description field when you upload, or update a video you've already published.

YouTube description FAQ

  • How long can a YouTube description be?

Up to 5,000 characters. The first lines matter most, because they're what viewers see before they click “more”.

  • What should a YouTube video description include?

An opening that says what the video is about, a short summary, chapters for longer videos, links to anything you mention and a few hashtags.

  • How do I add timestamps to a YouTube description?

Put each timestamp and chapter title on its own line, starting at 0:00. You need at least three, in order, and each chapter must be at least 10 seconds long. Use the chapter checker on this page to test yours.

  • How many hashtags should I put in a description?

YouTube shows up to three hashtags by your video title, and it ignores all of them if a video has more than 60. This generator adds three that fit the video.

  • Does the description help my video get found?

YouTube says writing descriptions with keywords can help viewers find your videos through search. Use your main keyword naturally in the first sentence rather than as a list.

  • Can I add links to my description?

Yes. Paste them under Chapters and links and they're added as you wrote them. The generator never adds links you didn't give it.

  • Can I change a description after publishing?

Yes. Open the video in YouTube Studio, edit the description under Details and save.

  • Does it write descriptions in other languages?

Yes. Descriptions are written in the language you use to describe the video, so describe it in Spanish to get Spanish descriptions.

  • Is this YouTube description generator free?

Yes. You can generate descriptions without signing up, up to a daily limit. To keep going, continue in YouMind.
