Try It in 3 Steps: Laptop Off, Agent Running

Step 1 — Deploy and Connect OpenClaw

Start by creating an OpenClaw application on Lighthouse, then connect a large language model (LLM) and a chat channel. This walkthrough uses WhatsApp so you can send instructions directly from your phone.

Create an instance: open the Lighthouse console and create a Linux instance. Select OpenClaw under Application templates.

Choose a plan with 2 vCPUs, 2 GB of memory, and a 40 GB system disk, or adjust the plan to suit your workload. If you already have an OpenClaw instance, you can reuse it.

Choose a region: for WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord, or similar apps, select a region outside the Chinese mainland. Confirm that it can reach both your chat app and the model API you plan to use.

Connect a model: when the instance shows Running, open Pre-installed application. Under Models, select your model, enter your API key in Enter API Key, and save.

Confirm that the Lighthouse instance is running before continuing with setup.

Connect WhatsApp: under Channels, select WhatsApp and click Authorization Access.

On your phone, open WhatsApp → Settings → Linked Devices → Link a Device, then scan the QR code.

Before continuing, check that the instance is Running, the model settings are saved, and WhatsApp is connected.

Test the connection: after linking the channel and completing any required authorization, send “hi” in WhatsApp. Wait for the agent to reply before continuing.

Step 2 — Set Up Overnight Monitoring

Connect and check your data sources first. Share the competitor product URLs and your warehouse inventory data source with the agent. Configure any required integrations and grant read access.

Ask for one sample record from each source, including the product name, price or stock level, and last-updated timestamp. Check those records against the source data.

Then send this request in WhatsApp:

Tonight, monitor competitor prices for the configured products and inventory levels at the US East Coast warehouse.

If a competitor lowers its price or inventory falls below 50 units, alert me in this WhatsApp chat. Include the product, the change in price or stock level, and the time. Send another alert for the same issue only if its status changes again.

At 08:00 Beijing time (UTC+8) tomorrow, end the monitoring session and send a summary of anything that needs attention. Send a report even if there are no issues. Save the monitoring log to the workspace and return its file path.

If a data source becomes unavailable or monitoring stops, tell me promptly. Monitor and recommend only: do not change prices, place purchase orders, or contact customers.

Before starting, verify access to the data sources and confirm the monitoring frequency. Send a status confirmation once monitoring begins.

Before you shut down: confirm that monitoring is active and the 08:00 summary is scheduled. Keep the Lighthouse instance running.

Step 3 — Check the Report and the Saved File

At the scheduled time, open WhatsApp to read the overnight report. The example below shows alerts and the morning summary arriving directly in the chat.

Compare the saved file with the WhatsApp report. Review the job's execution records to check when it ran, whether any data requests failed, and whether the summary was sent.

Verify the File on Lighthouse

From your computer, open the Lighthouse console and click Log in on the instance. Navigate to the file path included in the report. The example uses:

Make It a Daily Routine

Once the overnight test works, ask the agent in WhatsApp to repeat it each day.

For example, schedule regular price and inventory checks overnight, followed by an 08:00 summary in the same chat. Specify Beijing time (UTC+8), and adjust the check frequency and report time to your team's needs.
