TL;DR

This article introduces a comprehensive Claude Skill designed for short drama scriptwriting, featuring a 7-step professional workflow and a specialized overseas mode for international markets.

The content is a bit long, so if you don't have the patience to read it all, just give me a like!

Creating short drama scripts using this Skill is a core part of our studio's business chain—from writing novels (long and short) to converting novels into scripts, then scripts into scenes, and finally generating professional prompts for Seedance 2.0!

Because a script is the instruction manual for a filming team, having this specific script format is crucial if you are submitting work.

Some people specialize in writing scripts for submission to make money! If a script is accepted, the minimum income is around 30,000 RMB! If the drama becomes a hit, there are also royalties, roughly 1.5% (this is negotiable and usually reserved for relatively mature authors).

Not long ago, I released Skills for writing long and short novels. If you're interested, you can check them out here:

I have already shared these two Skills in my Twitter 'Subscriptions.' Today's scriptwriting Skill will also be added there. Welcome to be the first to ring my bell!

Alternatively, you can join our community 'Qian Lai You Dao' (Wealth Through the Right Path), where many writing prompts and Skills are available for free! Okay, enough with the ads! Let's get into the details:

First, an introduction: This is a Claude Skill specifically built for micro-short drama scriptwriting. It covers the entire process from topic selection to the final draft. With just a few commands, you can produce professional-grade scripts suitable for both domestic and overseas markets! Cool, right?

What can this Skill do for you?

A Complete Creative Workflow

Many people use AI to write short dramas by simply saying, 'Help me write a CEO drama'—the result is usually a mess of formatting and contradictions that is completely unusable.

This Skill is different. It breaks down the professional screenwriter's workflow into 7 commands to guide you step-by-step:

/Start → /Creative Plan → /Character Development → /Catalog → /Episodes → /Self-Check → /Export

You just follow the prompts. Every step has guidance, confirmation, and adjustments. The final output is a complete script of 50-100 episodes, not a collection of fragmented story pieces.

First, put the Skill (the folder named short-drama) into Claude's global skills. Then, in a specific project folder (this step is vital as all content will be saved here), open Claude Code and have it find the short-drama skill to begin! Or simply say, 'I want to write a script, find the relevant skill.'

Specific Steps and Capabilities

Step 1: /Start — Topic Selection and Positioning

The Skill displays 13 mainstream short drama genres for you to choose from—Urban Romance, Overbearing CEO, Sweet Pet, Rebirth/Time Travel, War God's Return, Ancient Palace, Inspirational Counterattack, Family Ethics, Cute Baby, Mystery/Detective, Soft Sci-Fi, Doomsday Rebirth, and Comedy. Each genre includes audience analysis and descriptions so you don't have to guess.

It also supports genre stacking, such as 'War God + Cute Baby' becoming 'The Return of the War God Father,' or 'CEO + Rebirth' becoming 'I Became the CEO's White Moonlight After Rebirth.' This helps create differentiated selling points.

After choosing the genre, it confirms the target audience (Male/Female/All Ages), story tone (Satisfying/Sweet-Sad/Funny/Dark/Warm), ending type, episode count, and output language.

Setting the direction once ensures you won't drift off-course later.

Note: There is also an Overseas Mode here! I've added script creation for international dramas as well!

If you are targeting international markets, you can select the overseas mode, which follows a different output process.

It generates content based on what overseas audiences like, defaults to English, and automatically switches the format to Hollywood industry standards (INT./EXT., CLOSE-UP, etc.).

It includes English dialogue writing tips to avoid 'Chinglish'!

The genre-guide.md for the overseas section has expanded from 23 lines to about 100 lines! It avoids Chinese-style narrative structures and adds localized conflict mechanisms and 'satisfaction points'!

Step 2: /Creative Plan — The Skeleton of the Story

This step automatically generates a complete creative plan, including:

  1. 3 alternative titles
  2. Time-space background and social environment settings
  3. A one-sentence logline + core conflict
  4. Three-act narrative structure breakdown
  5. Full-drama pacing waveform

You can see at a glance where the climaxes, lows, and paid cliffhangers are, along with the ending design and satisfaction matrix.

There's a lot of content, so I'll just show these for now.

This isn't just randomly made up; it's generated based on professional knowledge built into the Skill, including pacing theory, paid cliffhanger strategies, and the 'Golden Rule' for openings.

Step 3: /Character Development — Bringing Characters to Life

It generates a detailed profile for each character—name, age, appearance, personality traits, public vs. true identity, core motivation, conflict points, and most importantly, the 'Satisfaction Function' (which role the character plays in making the audience feel satisfied).

It also automatically generates:

  1. Mermaid Character Relationship Map—See who is who at a glance.
  2. Character Arc Design—How each character changes from start to finish.
  3. Romance Arc—How the leads go from strangers to lovers.
  4. Key Interaction Scene Presets—Where the first conflict, identity reveal, and ultimate showdown happen.

You can see the rest when you use it.

Step 4: /Catalog — Full Planning for 50-100 Episodes

One line per episode, marking the title and core conflict/satisfaction point. Important episodes are marked with 🔥, and paid cliffhangers are marked with 💰. You can see the rhythm of the entire drama instantly.

The Skill forces you to review the entire catalog before starting the episode writing, preventing situations where you realize halfway through that the setup was wrong.

Step 5: /Episodes — The Actual Script Production

This is the most hardcore part.

Entering /Episodes 1 will write the full script for Episode 1 according to professional script formatting:

冰河 - inline image
  1. 3-5 scenes per episode
  2. Over 800 words per episode
  3. Includes scene headers (Int/Ext, Location, Day/Night)
  4. Character list
  5. △ Action descriptions (with shot size tips: Wide/Medium/Close-up/Extreme Close-up)
  6. Character dialogue (with tone/action instructions)
  7. Music cues, phone call markers, and other special notations
  8. Every episode ends with a suspenseful hook

Something written like this can be filmed immediately by a director. You don't need to adjust the formatting.

Step 6: /Self-Check — Quality Control

After writing, run a self-check to score the script across 5 dimensions:

  1. Pacing check (Is the opening fast enough? Any dragging?)
  2. Satisfaction check (Are there enough '爽' points? Is the intensity sufficient?)
  3. Dialogue check (Any fluff? Are the voices distinct?)
  4. Format check (Any missing scene headers or shot sizes?)
  5. Consistency check (Any contradictions with previous episodes?)

Step 7: /Export — Direct Delivery

Export the completed script into a professionally formatted .md file:

  • Standard script structure (scenes, settings, characters, dialogue)
  • Professional filming notes (shot sizes, lighting, music)
  • Complete metadata (writer, genre, duration, word count)
  • Satisfaction point markers and next-episode previews

You can use professional tools to convert it to .docx format and submit it directly to production companies or platforms for review.

What Makes This Skill Special?

1. Built-in Methodology for Viral Dramas

This isn't just a simple 'help me write a story' prompt. The Skill's references folder contains 7 professional documents totaling over 1,500 lines, covering:

  1. Golden 5-Second Opening Rule—6 opening templates (Direct Slap-in-the-face, Identity Reversal, Extreme Dilemma, Flashback Suspense, High-Sweet Hook, Rebirth Start) with examples.
  2. Paid Cliffhanger Design—Where to place them, three design principles, and 5 classic patterns.
  3. Pacing Curve Design—Single-episode three-act micro-structure (30s hook → 1m conflict escalation → 30s satisfaction release) and full-drama four-stage rhythm.
  4. 5 Major Satisfaction Type Matrix—Identity crushing, face-slapping revenge, counterattack, emotional explosion, and visual impact.
  5. Villain Design Essentials—4-tier villain system (Small → Medium → Large → Hidden), ensuring the villain is hateful enough to make the 'face-slap' satisfying.
  6. Episode Hook Design—5 hook types (Suspense, Reversal, Emotional, Informational, Crisis).

These are distilled from real-world experience in the short drama industry. Claude Code reads these materials before writing, so the output doesn't feel too 'AI-ish'—it understands the rhythm of short dramas.

2. Overseas Support — Dual Formats and Western Cultural Libraries

This is a major highlight. Short drama export is a huge trend; ReelShort's global revenue exceeded $130 million in Q1 2025.

The Skill includes:

  1. Chinese-English Dual Script Formats—Automatically switches to Hollywood standards for English scripts.
  2. Cultural Element Mapping—Converts Chinese tropes like Cultivation or Palace Intrigue into Western, Southeast Asian, or Middle Eastern equivalents.
  3. Proven Western Viral Elements—Summarized from ReelShort and DramaBox data (Billionaire, Werewolf/Alpha, Flash Marriage, Secret Baby...).
  4. Western Cultural Quick Reference—Social scenes (charity galas, courtrooms), symbols (black cards, family trusts), and emotional expression differences.
  5. Chinese Narrative Trap List—Avoids tropes that don't translate well (e.g., 'filial piety' or kneeling for forgiveness as core conflicts).

Type /Overseas to switch modes instantly.

3. Compliance Review Checklist

Many people focus only on the 'satisfaction' and forget compliance. New regulations for micro-dramas were implemented in June 2024.

The Skill includes a Compliance Review Checklist:

  1. Red-line content (absolute no-gos).
  2. High-risk content handling (violence, emotional scales, social sensitivities).
  3. Short-drama-specific pitfalls (protagonists being 'above the law,' money-is-everything themes).
  4. Positive value checklist.

Type /Compliance to scan your completed script.

4. A Real Workflow Tool, Not a 'One-Off Prompt'

Most short drama prompts are one-offs—you throw it in, get a mess, and have to fix it yourself.

This Skill's design is different:

  1. Progressive Creation: Each step is confirmed before moving to the next.
  2. Adjustable Anytime: You can go back and modify any stage.
  3. Contextual Continuity: When writing Episode 10, Claude knows what happened in the first 9.
  4. Quality Control: Run self-checks for every episode.

5. Professional Script Format, Ready to Use

Many AI-generated 'scripts' are just novels. This Skill produces true literary script formats with scene headers, shot size tips, action descriptions, and music cues. Whether you're submitting to a company or filming it yourself, it's ready to go.

Who is this for?

  1. Short Drama Screenwriters: Increase output efficiency.
  2. Production Companies: Quickly generate first drafts for human writers to refine.
  3. Overseas Teams: Produce English scripts with Western market insights.
  4. Web Novel Authors: Transition to short dramas with a guided process.
  5. Individual Entrepreneurs: Low-cost validation of ideas in the short drama space.

Final Word

The core philosophy of this Skill is simple: Make AI truly understand short dramas.

It's not about letting AI make up a story; it's about making it understand the logic of the rhythm—why the first 5 seconds must grab the viewer, why every episode needs a hook, and why the villain must be arrogant before the fall.

These 'crafts of the trade' are all encoded into the Skill. Try it out, and you'll find it knows short dramas better than you imagined.
