II. Preparation Before Application

Before starting, ensure you have the following materials and tools ready:

German Address (find one directly on Google Maps)

2. Recommended Tools

Computer + Camera (for KYC video verification, more stable than mobile)
iPhone (if using mobile for KYC, iPhone is strongly recommended; Android often whites out)
Xesim Adapter (essential for domestic phones to download eSIM, detailed later)
Wise Account (for low-cost transfer top-ups)
Immersive Translate browser plugin: To translate German into understandable English/Chinese

3. Important Tips

Use a fixed IP (German preferred, US also works) throughout the process
Ensure personal info matches your passport exactly, especially the birth date
If you submit errors, you must use a different email to reapply
Perform KYC in a well-lit environment

Part 1: Applying for German O2 eSIM

Step 1: Enter O2 Website and Select eSIM Plan

Open the O2 Prepaid eSIM page: https://www.o2online.de/mobilfunk/prepaid/esim/
Select the basic eSIM Prepaid Basic Tariff (the 0 EUR one)

Step 2: Fill in Personal Information

Step 3: Fill in German Address

Since it's an eSIM, the address doesn't need to be real for shipping:

Step 4: Set Account Password

Set a secure password (12-128 characters).

Step 5: Verify Email

Part 2: Using Xesim to Write and Set Up O2 eSIM

Why Xesim?

Domestic Chinese phones often can't scan eSIM QR codes directly. Xesim is a physical SIM that manages eSIMs via an App. Skip this if you have an overseas phone with native eSIM support.

Step 1: Get eSIM QR Code

Step 2: Prepare Xesim

Insert Xesim, download the App, and bind it using the EID.

Step 3: Download O2 eSIM

Use the "Easy Download Code" in the Xesim App for the smoothest experience.

Step 4: Enable O2 eSIM

Enable it in the Xesim App.

Step 5: Turn Off Data Roaming (CRITICAL!)

Immediately turn off data roaming to avoid high costs.

Step 6: Enable WiFi Calling

This allows free SMS and calls in China.

Step 7: Receive O2 SMS

You should receive a welcome SMS once WiFi Calling is active.

Part 3: Maintenance via Wise Transfer

Step 1: Get O2 Bank Info

SMS any text to 56656 to receive your IBAN and Reference (very important!).

Step 2: Use Wise to Transfer

Add "Telefonica Germany" as a recipient and transfer 0.01 EUR. Must include the Reference number.

Maintenance Strategy

Rule: Top up every 180 days.
